If you’re dreaming of an engagement session surrounded by wildflowers, mountain peaks, and endless alpine trails, Albion Basin is one of Utah’s most breathtaking summer locations, and for good reason.
Tucked at the very back of Little Cottonwood Canyon, just above Alta, Albion Basin completely transforms once the snow melts. Known worldwide for epic winter skiing, this area becomes a lush, floral paradise in summer, offering one of the most romantic backdrops for engagement sessions and elopements in Utah.

Albion Basin in the summer feels like stepping into a dream. Rolling mountain meadows burst with color, trails stretch endlessly in every direction, and the air feels calm, expansive, and deeply peaceful.
What makes this location especially perfect for engagement sessions:
It’s ideal for couples who love the outdoors, want movement and connection in their photos, and want their engagement session to feel like an experience, not just a photoshoot.
Albion Basin is located just minutes outside of Salt Lake City, making it one of the most accessible alpine environments in the state.
How to get there:
For a little extra adventure, I love starting from the Alta lot and walking in. After about 10 minutes, you’ll reach the floral landscape near Catherine Pass Trailhead where the wildflower fields really begin to open up.
The trails are easy to navigate, and as long as you stay on them and respect the landscape, you’ll have wide-open mountain views and flowers as far as the eye can see.
One of my favorite areas for engagement sessions is following Albion Basin Road toward the Cecret Lake Trail.
This section of the basin feels:
You can feel the history of the mountains here, where skiers carve lines in winter and wildflowers take over in summer. It’s quiet, cinematic, and incredibly romantic.

Albion Basin is a special place, and preserving it matters. Here’s everything you need to know before planning your engagement session:
This is the kind of place that invites you to slow down, breathe deeper, and fully experience the mountains together.

If you’re getting engaged, planning an elopement, or simply want photos that feel timeless, organic, and deeply connected to nature, Albion Basin is a Utah favorite for a reason.
I look forward to every summer up here, playing in the mountains, chasing light through wildflowers, and documenting love in one of the most beautiful places in the state.
R & T chose Albion Basin because they wanted their engagement session to feel like an extension of who they are rooted in nature, movement, and intention. They’re drawn to the outdoors and were looking for something that felt unique, artful, and creatively led, rather than posed or traditional.
Their session unfolded slowly, wandering through wildflower fields and mountain trails, allowing space for connection and quiet moments in between. Albion Basin offered the perfect setting: expansive yet intimate, rugged yet soft. The mountains became a backdrop that didn’t overpower, but instead mirrored their relationship, grounded, adventurous, and deeply present.
It’s sessions like this that remind me why Albion Basin is such a special place. If you’re dreaming of an engagement session that feels natural, elevated, and experience-driven, this is one of Utah’s most beautiful places to begin.
If Albion Basin feels like your place, I’d love to help you plan and photograph your engagement session here.
